All Day Market Swakopmund
29.10.2022
Swakopmund's most popular event gave us the opportunity to represent Ukraine where we not only presented our traditional Ukrainian decorations,
but we also had a performance by
Polina Loubnina,
flute player from UK.
Polina played the music of Ukrainian composers, and of course the world most popular song of 2022
"Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow", which has become The World Anthem of Freedom, was performed.
"Let’s create harmony beauty and joy, so much needed in this broken lost in self distraction world! Right now is nothing more important than to stop this russian inhumane barbaric aggression, this war, to fight putin’s inhumane regime, to help Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom, independence, their land, and simply, their right to exist, right to live. Nothing else matters, that’s all.
Much love and strength and
total victory for Ukraine!"
- Polina Loubnina.
Polina Loubnina was born in Siberia, russia. She moved to Windhoek (Namibia) and got deeply involved in Art and Music scene in Namibia, working on several projects with many Namibian and international artists. From 2013 she lives in the UK, where she continues creating musical projects, as well as working on the new project in Namibia “Botselo” which will be launched soon.
During the russian invasion of Ukraine, Polina took a strong stand against the aggression, helping refugees, organising fundraising concerts, producing music together with Ukrainian artists.
We were very pleased that our visitors asked where they could find more information for a better understanding of Ukraine and how they could help us as well where to find information on Namibia and other African countries' relationship with Ukraine.
At our stall people also could to find out what Ukraine and Namibia have in common and there’s the whole range of products exported from Ukraine to Namibia, and last year our biggest airplane in the world Mriya brought to Namibia a lot of Covid help. The news about Mriya having been destroyed by russia still hurts many Namibians.
We offered to answer the quiz questions "Guess - Namibia or Ukraine?" and people were glad to do it and were amazed at how similar our countries are.
"I met more than a hundred refugees fleeing the brutal war in Ukraine. They are all just normal people with their own stories of happiness and problems of normal day-to-day life, which abruptly stopped on the 24th of February. Many of them lost their family members, their houses, their sense of future, sense of life, faith in humanity… But when we got together playing music, singing and dancing their eyes shined with fire of life again and this is one of the best moments of my life."
- Polina Loubnina.
