Swakopmund Night Market
18.03.2022

It’s the 32nd anniversary of Independence of Namibia on 21st of March, and they can relate to the passion for freedom of Ukrainians.

We decided to use the opportunity of a local markets dedicated to the Independence Day of Namibia and to introduce the Ukrainian stall with Ukrainian traditional things for sale while raising awareness about the war in Ukraine and talking to people who are willing to learn more.

Many people were stopping by and expressing their support with their good wishes for Ukraine and Ukrainians, supporting through donations and buying Ukrainian decorations.
Some were asking what our stall was all about and we were happy to converse, answer questions, dissolve doubts, hug each other showing empathy and care.
Also there’s the whole range of products exported from Ukraine to Namibia, and last year our biggest airplane in the world Mriya brought to Namibia a lot of Covid help. The news about Mriya having been destroyed by russia saddened many Namibians.
We were very pleased that our visitors also asked where on the internet they could find more information for a better understanding of Ukraine and how they could help us.

"While the information coming in is quite scarce but I can see that people I’m talking to are eager to learn and understand more, and many of them support and encourage Ukraine and Ukrainians.

The effect of the war on many parts of the world is getting more and more obvious, even here in Africa. And even if for this only reason more and more people should be aware and stand up for the soonest end of this unnecessary war.
We all, whoever we are and wherever we happened to be,
can do our little bits in contributing to the long-awaited peace." -

All the little things presented at our stall: hair bands, earrings, flags, wreaths, masks, other decorations, all in Ukrainians colors - were made locally by the local ladies whose help we appreciate a lot.

Thanks to everyone who came over to express their support of Ukraine. Thanks to all of you on the other side of the screen who have eyes to see and ears to hear and hearts to feel and sympathize.

"One of my major messages and lessons I learned on the road is that most of people in the world have kind hearts and gentle souls. But in the times like this when the enemy having claimed to be a brother stabs at the back it is hard to keep faith in humanity. And only moments like this when you see that there still exists sympathy, and compassion, and understanding, and support, help to keep this faith alive." - Anna Grechishkina

Thank you Design-Nova who organized everything in such an efficient way.
